Cutting calories is the oldest weight loss advice in the book. Under chronic stress, it can make your body push back harder.

That sounds unfair because it is. Your body does not read a calorie deficit as a spreadsheet entry. It reads low fuel, poor sleep, high pressure, and constant vigilance as one message: conserve energy.

This is where cortisol matters. Cortisol helps you mobilize fuel during stress, but when the stress never really resolves, the same system can drive hunger, cravings, abdominal fat storage, and a slower metabolic rate.
